More on testing techniques

November 4th, 2007 by Joe

I’ve posted recently about my experience with Google’s new Website Optimizer tool (Test your site elements - you might be surprised by the results). If you’re interested in learning more about the tool in particular and testing techniques in general, check out this brief but helpful overview at Grokdotcom: Google Website Optimizer: 7 Powerful Tests. There are a few techniques described in this piece which I wasn’t aware Google’s tool was capable of — for example, a ‘click’ test, where you want to test a link which leads to an outside site. You can’t put tracking code on a site you don’t own (in order to track the link), but you can apparently track how many times people click the link on your site. I have a perfect item to test this on which I have to look into next week.

Warning: once you start thinking about testing, it gets a little addictive, and you start daydreaming about all the elements you could be testing for efficacy.
